Frequently Asked Questions
My AC works fine. Do I really need maintenance?+
That's the best time to do it. A system that runs fine today can still be carrying a dirty coil, a weak capacitor, or a half-clogged drain line, and none of those give much warning. Don't wait until the first heat wave to find out. Once a year we clean, check, and run it through a full cycle so it's proven before you need it.
How often should an air conditioner be serviced?+
Once a year. Central air and ductless mini-splits both get an annual visit. Ductless systems are the least forgiving if it's skipped, because every indoor head has its own filters and drain line, and a clogged one shows up as weak airflow and water where it shouldn't be.
When is the best time to schedule AC maintenance?+
Spring is ideal, since the schedule is open and the system gets checked before it runs hard. If you're already past spring, the second-best time is now. A system that hasn't been serviced in the past year shouldn't wait for next season.
What if Kintech finds a problem during the visit?+
We tell you what we found in plain language. Many repairs can be done on the spot, and you get the price before any work starts. If a part has to be ordered, we give you an estimate and you decide whether you'd like us to take care of it.
Does skipping maintenance void my warranty?+
Sometimes, yes. Many manufacturers require regular maintenance, and they can turn down a warranty claim when there's no record of it. An annual visit keeps you within their terms and gives you the service record to show for it.
Do you service heat pumps and ductless mini-splits?+
Yes, both. A heat pump is the same refrigerant equipment as central air, run in both directions, so the visit checks the same coils, refrigerant, and electricals. On the memberships page, heat pumps are listed under heating. A ductless visit covers every indoor head, its filters, drain line, and coil, plus the outdoor unit.
What's the difference between a maintenance visit and a membership?+
The work done on site is the same either way. With or without a membership, a maintenance visit is the full inspection, cleaning and safety check. What a membership adds is a year of perks:
- 20% off your yearly AC maintenance
- 50% off the diagnostic fee on any service call
- 10% off AC repairs (Gold and Platinum)
- 24-hour priority response (Platinum)
- $200 off an AC replacement (Platinum)
- 10% off upgrades like UV lights and HEPA filters (Platinum)
- 10% off each membership when you hold both AC and heating
- A call or text from our office when your visit is due
Is a tune-up the same as maintenance?+
Yes. Some companies call the yearly visit a tune-up. We call it maintenance, because it's a full inspection, cleaning and safety check rather than a quick adjustment. Same visit, either name.
