A tank stores hot water and costs less up front. A tankless unit heats water as you use it, so it never runs out and takes up far less space, but it costs more to buy and may need gas line and venting work to install. We size either one to your home and how much hot water your household uses, and if the pricier option isn't worth it for your house, we'll tell you.

An electric tank with a heat pump on top. Instead of heating water with electric elements alone, it pulls heat from the air around it, which takes far less electricity than a standard electric tank. It needs a bit of room around it for airflow, so where it sits matters, and that's part of what the estimate visit looks at.

A tank with no burner of its own. Hot water from your boiler runs through a coil inside it and heats the water in the tank. It's only an option for homes that already heat with a boiler, and if that's you, it's often the most efficient choice.

Draining down and removing your old unit, all the electrical and control wiring the new unit needs, and a 1-year Kintech labor warranty on the installation. Anything specific to your home is spelled out on the estimate before you approve it.

It depends on the unit and on the venting and gas or electrical work it needs. We give you the timeline with the estimate, and you have hot water again before we leave.

Maybe. It can be the tank's size for your household, a heating element that has failed on an electric unit, or sediment taking up space inside the tank. We check before we recommend a bigger unit. If your household really is outrunning the tank, a larger tank or a tankless unit is the fix, and we size it for you.
